There are times in history when the creation of music takes a sharp right turn, and the dawning of the 17th century was such a time.  The rise of individualism prompted composers like Monteverdi to write in a new, more personal style that opened the doors to opera.  At the heart of Monteverdi’s seminal collection “Songs of Love and War” lies the tragic tale of Tancredi and Clorinda, lovers who find themselves fighting unwittingly on opposite sides.
