The Leipzig Collegium Musicum, under the directorship of a youthful G.P. Telemann, was among the first such organizations to present regular subscription concerts for the middle class. Performed in coffee houses in the winter and gardens in the summer, these weekly concerts presented a platform for Telemann's newly composed works along with those of his students and peers, including J.S. Bach's famous Concerto for Two Violins.
There will be a pre-concert lecture (Saturday performance only) at 6:30 pm in the Gould Room at the Cathedral of St. Philip. Free for ticket holders.
